While the Blues have only one win in four games, the Chiefs are coming off their first loss at the weekend when the Fijian Drua beat them in Lautoka.
Assistant coach David Hill said the post-game wash-up from the defeat to the Drua focused on some effort issues and dealing with momentum they lost at stages during the game.
"We came out of that pretty clear on what we need to fix and move into the Blues and what's coming."
The Drua was a good side, especially at home, and they played well in the testing wet conditions.
"They're probably going to win more than they lose over there. They had a good little purple patch where they played really well and we didn't do as well as we wanted on both sides of the ball."
Hill said he expected the Blues to continue to base their game on their physicality and set pieces, which would be a defensive challenge for the Chiefs.
The key to their first-round win was their good preparation during the week and finding the right balance about important areas of their game.
A feature of the game could be flanker Samipeni Finau playing his 50th game for the side.
"He's come through the pathway, having been schooled in Hamilton at St Peters, Waikato and the Chiefs Under-20s and into the Chiefs team.
"He's a fairly humble, hard-working young fellow, but he's grown a lot over the last couple of years by being in the All Blacks and playing regularly for us. He's got some strength to his game – I wouldn't want to run into him.
"It's a great achievement for him. We're getting a few of them now. There's a group around his age who are coming through nicely, hitting their 50-game mark and pushing on for higher honours, it's good to see."
