Ben Smith Loving Super Rugby Pacific 2025: "Hard Not to Watch"

The Highlanders host the Hurricanes in Dunedin on Friday.

"It's such a good product that it's hard not to turn on the telly. I enjoyed all the games at the weekend. The Drua playing against the Chiefs in Fiji was awesome to watch.

"And then again, Moana Pasifika versus the Hurricanes on Saturday. There's a good product as far as running rugby [is concerned].

"It's entertaining and everyone's got a win on the table. Anyone can beat anyone at this stage and that makes for a good product."

Playing at home, under Forsyth Barr Stadium's roof, made it only natural that the Highlanders preferred to play a running game.

"We want to make sure where there are opportunities to go that we do and we give players confidence to do that. We're looking forward to being back at home this weekend."

They should be boosted by players returning from injuries.

Smith said first five-eighths Cam Millar was progressing through concussion protocols and is doing the right things so when he returns to play he will be good to go.

"Whether it's this week or next week it will be just going through the right protocols to make sure he's ready."

Fullback Finn Hurley was also recovering well from his injury.

First five-eighths Taine Robinson should also be available.

"He's been doing a good job for us and putting us on the front foot. He's ready to go."

Utility back Thomas Umaga-Jensen is another who has recovered and is available for selection for the weekend.
