Sky Super Rugby Aupiki goes prime time for 2025 final and adds trans-Tasman showdown

The 2025 Sky Super Rugby Aupiki season kicks off this Saturday 1 March, marking the start of a special year for women’s rugby.

Now entering its fourth season, Sky Super Rugby Aupiki is New Zealand’s premier professional women’s rugby competition, and for the first time fans will see the Final in a prime-time Sky broadcast spot - 7:05 pm on Saturday, 12 April.  

Following the conclusion of the competition, fans can also look forward to the inaugural Women’s Super Rugby Champions Final, a trans-Tasman contest between the best two teams from Sky Super Rugby Aupiki and Australia’s Super W. The historic Women’s Super Rugby Champions Final will be live on Sky at 7:05 pm on Thursday, 17 April.

“Sky Super Rugby Aupiki promises to deliver another competitive season in 2025, with the high level of fast paced, physical rugby that fans know and love. The addition of The Women’s Super Rugby Champions Final is an exciting opportunity to see the best teams from New Zealand and Australia face off in a historic trans-Tasman showdown. It’s a step forward in further aligning these two competitions, and we look forward to building on this in 2026 to bring even more top-tier action to the rugby community.”

“In an exciting year for women’s rugby with the Rugby World Cup fast approaching, we’re really pleased to be working with NZR to bring women’s rugby to more fans around New Zealand. We’ll broadcast all matches live on Sky, and one match per week free to air on Sky Open. Plus, we are pleased to have brought the two finals into a prime-time broadcast times – both the Sky Super Rugby Aupiki final, and the first ever Women’s Super Rugby Champions Final.  

“We’re also unveiling an exciting new re-brand for Sky Sport which will be debuted in the opening match of Sky Super Rugby Aupiki.”  

Every match of Sky Super Rugby Aupiki will be live on Sky Sport, and Sky will have pre-match shows, half time analysis and post-match wrap ups featuring a range of interviews with players, captains and coaches and expert analysis.  One Sky Super Rugby Aupiki match per week will be free-to-air on Sky Open, including the Grand Final in prime time.
