Chiefs assistant coach Marty Bourke said feedback after the game against the Blues was that it was 'a game for the ages' so far as fans were concerned, and the Chiefs were delighted to have come out on top.
"We worked pretty hard as a group through the week around being ready for that in some of those pressure situations. We did well, which sets us up for an important week against Moana Pasifika."
There is also some relief that an intended trip to Tonga for the game has been changed to Pukekohe, which the Chiefs regard as a home stadium.
"Moana Pasifika are a different team now and have some quality stock in their playing and coaching group.
"They've evolved well, but we saw in their win over the Hurricanes that they are a team that will never be an easy beat, like everyone in the competition.
Tidying key moments where they hadn't finished the job against the Blues will be their task in this week's preparation.
"We've put a lot of tension into that this week around being better than we were last week and taking a step up, especially before one week leading into the bye.
"I'm not sure if there's ever an ideal time for a bye, but when we go into it having played relatively well, it's a good opportunity for us to have a good checkpoint of where we're at.
"Something I'm excited about is a chance for us to see where we can go and some of the changes we can make post-bye while staying true to our style of footy."
Halfback Xavier Roe said the players knew they had been through a close call when coming out on top of the Blues.
"It seemed like every time a team got into the opposition 22, they were coming away with points. Luckily we were able to capitalise on a few opportunities."
Bourke said Roe had grown another leg this year, and they have two competent halfbacks, with Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi returning to add further strength.
Roe said he and Ratima have been playing together for six years and know each other well.
Roe, who has started most of the games this year, said he enjoys getting time behind such a good forward pack.
"And Cortez brought a lot of impact when he came on and scored a try. Hopefully, we can keep it up.
"Moana Pasifika is always in the contest, and we've seen it across the competition. It is tight, and anyone can beat anyone.
"You saw that with Moana getting up on the 'Canes a couple of weeks ago. We're going to have to put out our best performance to get a win."
