Jones, twice the Australia coach, England coach, and an assistant coach during South Africa's 2007 winning Rugby World Cup campaign, inspired Japan to probably its most significant moment in the international game when beating the Springboks at the 2015 World Cup.
He returned to the role of Japan coach earlier this year and with mixed results, culminating in a 17-41 loss to Fiji in the Pacific Nations Cup final in September.
Japan last played the All Blacks in 2022, losing 31-38 in Tokyo.
Jones has laid down the challenge for his side.
"We want to play like Japan from the first minute to the 80th and not stop challenging New Zealand with our style of play.
"Whenever you play against New Zealand the first thing you've got to do is be prepared to take them on."
The hope for Japan is that it can apply sustained pressure throughout the contest to maximise its chance of a win for the first time in six Tests between the two countries.
"Like any team in the world, New Zealand are a team that if you go at them you can put them under pressure. We can really put some pressure on them with our collective speed and we intend to do that from the first minute."
To do that, Japan must overcome a strong and bulky All Blacks forward pack.
With so many changes made by Jones to Japan, the pressure is on the home side. This season, the 18th and 19th new caps may take the field in Yokohama.
While that was evidence of the transition phase Japan was going through, this Test against the All Blacks was not about transition, it was about performance, Jones said.
"This is the ultimate test. You've got to be able to do it for 80 minutes.
"That's what we've been preparing for, and I feel the players are ready to play the best game that Japan's ever played against New Zealand. That's the opportunity ahead of them."
Jones has made five changes to the starting lineup, which lost the Pacific Nations final, to achieve that.
First five-eighths Harumichi Tatekawa will captain the side. Among the changes to the team, fullback Yoshitaka Yazaki returns along with Fijian wing Jone Naikabula. Back on the openside flank is former captain Kazuki Himeno.
The Japan team is: 1.Takato Okabe, 2.Atsushi Sakate, 3.Shuhei Takeuchi, 4.Sanaila Waqa, 5.Warner Dearns, 6.Amato Fakatava, 7. Kazuki Himeno, 8.Faulua Makisi, 9.Shinobu Fujiwara, 10.Harumichi Tatekawa (captain), 11.Malo Tuitama, 12.Nicholas McCurran, 13.Dylan Riley, 14.Jone Naikabula, 15.Yoshitaka Yazaki.
