JUST ONE YEAR after moving from Australia to New Zealand, rugby league convert Tyrel Lomax made his mark at both Mitre 10 Cup and Investec Super Rugby level
The son of former Kiwis international player John Lomax, Tyrel switched from rugby league and played his first year of Investec Super Rugby with the Melbourne Rebels in 2017, before negotiating an early release from his contract to move back to New Zealand and play for the Tasman Mako for that year’s domestic season. After a strong 2019 Super Rugby season with the Highlanders, which saw him miss just one game, Lomax announced that he would be moving to the Hurricanes for the 2020 season.Lomax was selected as one of 10 new caps in the Māori All Blacks for their 2017 two match end of season tour to Canada and France after a solid debut season with the Tasman Mako. He rejoined the Māori All Blacks for their 2018 tour to USA and South America, coming off the bench in the victory against Brazil, before starting in the number 3 jersey against Chile.
Lomax earned selection for the All Blacks in 2020 following a strong performance for the South in the Steinlager North v South clash.
