George ended a world record run when making his first start in a Test match against the All Blacks for the 2017 British & Irish Lions in Auckland.
Before that, he had made all 17 of his Test appearances for England from the bench, the most by any player awaiting their Test start. While beaten 15-30 in that game, he enjoyed the Lions' 24-21 second Test win in Wellington. He also started in the drawn third Test in Auckland.
Then, in 2019, he was in the England side that pummeled the All Blacks 19-7 in the Rugby World Cup semifinal in Japan, and was a substitute in the 2022 25-25 draw at Twickenham.
All players sought the All Blacks' scalp because they had 'so much respect for everything New Zealand does for rugby worldwide'.
As England develops under coach Steve Borthwick, George said playing the All Blacks in the two-Test series was a huge challenge.
He told the media during the side's preparation in Auckland and before travelling to Dunedin, "We want to make sure we are the best team possible. To do that, you have to play against the best teams, and New Zealand are certainly one of those.
"I think we've set the tone with the performance we had in Japan. Preparations are going well and the squad are looking good going into this two-match series."
The experience to be gained playing the All Blacks in New Zealand would be priceless for the side.
