Furbank was forced out of the second Test due to a back spasm and was forced to watch England lose 17-24.

England will name its squad for the November 3 (NZT) Test on Wednesday, and Furbank is regarded as a certainty to start.

He told The Rugby Paper he was gutted to miss the second Test at Eden Park.

"Eden Park is a historic place. I was buzzing to play in New Zealand once but wanted to play that second game.

"But this is another opportunity to have another shot at them at home.

"With 15 minutes to go in both games, we had put ourselves in position to win both and ultimately came out on the wrong side through a few different elements.

"We look back with frustration, but with a feeling we developed massively as a team on that tour."

Since the tour, players have spoken about where they want to improve, especially if the game is tight.

But he said he was shocked when the side lost its defence coach, Felix Jones, especially as Furbank had just got to grips with Jones' blitz defence system. However, he expects Jones' replacement, Joe El-Abd, won't make too many changes.

"He's going to look to put his mark on it, but it's about improving where we are at the moment with our defence.

"We came on leaps and bounds with that aggressive blitz defence, so we're going to look at keeping improving that."

Blitz defence was new to Furbank; it felt different, and he took time to adjust.

"You're probably worrying too much about backfield space. As a fullback, you don't really want the ball kicked in behind you but you rely on the lads inside you to put enough pressure on the kicker so he can't get the kick away."

The system was new to many in the side, as only Exeter and Sale used that system in the Premiership to a lesser extent.

El-Abd joined England for a three-day camp last week and will be with the side when at a pre-international season camp in Girona from October 21.

El-Abd is contracted to French club Oyonnax as director of rugby until the end of the season and is job-sharing until then.

He played for Toulon and Oyonnax and started his coaching career as a defence and forwards coach with Castres.
