Aotearoa Mata'u

The youngest member of the 2016 Black Ferns squad, Aotearoa Mata’u already had plenty of experience when she played her first Test.

Mata'u made her first class debut in 2013 for Counties Manukau while a student at Papakura High School as the Heat returned to top-level rugby and has made a big contribution to the team since.

Throughout a huge season with the 2016 Farah Palmer Cup champions, Mata’u attracted the eye of the selectors with her impressive scrummaging – and then showed her attacking skills with a try against the Wellington Pride in the semifinal. She made a big debut against the Wallaroos in October 2016.

She was named as one of the 2017 New Zealand Rugby Almanack's Promising Players of the Year.
