All Blacks establish strong synergy between plan and execution

Compare this to the emotion at AMI Stadium, where the All Blacks overcame one of the more common bugbears in rugby, the connection between the coaches and the players and the ability to carry out a series of carefully laid plans.

In Auckland, understandable for a first Test hit out, there were more than one or two hints of ‘what are they doing!’, but in Christchurch no one could doubt that there was a master plan and that it was executed to tactical perfection.

It was as close to a 100% performance as the All Blacks could have delivered, a far cry from head coach Steve Hansen’s remarks after the first Test.

“Yeah, it didn't flow and it wasn't a hundy (100%),” Hansen remarked after Eden Park, “but if we modify a few things and get rid of the errors like turning the ball over unnecessarily, then we will have something to build on."

Modifications were made, errors were by and large eliminated, and a 30 point win and a historic blanking of the French ensued.

Hansen believes that the eventual on field performance is dictated by what happens in the week build up, and the fact that the All Blacks lifted “nine or ten cogs” during the build-up to Christchurch was supported by the All Blacks coaches belief the team would be better for the extended time together approaching the Second Test.
