| Melissa Ruscoe made her Black Ferns debut 2004 and was a member of the side that won the Churchill Cup tournament in Edmonton and the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup-winning side in 2006. A year earlier she led Canterbury to the final of the Women's competition and an outstanding season for her province and the Black Ferns earned her the title of New Zealand's Women's Player of the Year in 2005. In 2008 she again captained Canterbury to the women's final. Not only has she achieved in rugby, but is she a former New Zealand soccer captain.
