Stacey Waaka's performances at provincial level have earned her comparisons with some of New Zealand's greatest backs
Fast and tall, Waaka is evasive, able to slice through defences and has a gliding run that has been described as Christian Cullen-like. She scored 11 tries in her first eight matches with Waikato (a provincial record for tries in a season), when she made her Women's Provincial Championship debut in 2014.
She followed that with Black Ferns selection in 2015 and pulled on a black jersey again in 2016 with selection in the Black Ferns Sevens squad and played in two tournaments in her first campaign. During the 2016 Farah Palmer Cup, Waaka added another three tries after missing the start of the season.
A natural athlete, Waaka has also represented New Zealand in touch rugby and at provincial level in netball, hockey and athletics. She is studying for a Bachelor of Sport and Leisure Studies at Waikato University.
