Marty McKenzie

A versatile player, comfortable playing in an array of backline positions, Ngati Tuwharetoa iwi member Marty McKenzie was a star for the Taranaki in the 2014 ITM Cup, playing under Maori All Blacks Coach Colin Cooper as the team made it to the ITM Cup Final.

In March 2014, McKenzie was called into the All Blacks Sevens team for the first time, attracting praise from super-coach Sir Gordon Tietjens for his good rugby brain and defensive strength. He is also a useful goalkicker and has a good eye for the tryline.

McKenzie – who plays much of his rugby at fullback - made his Investec Super Rugby debut in 2013 for the Blues, just a year after playing for New Zealand Under 20 in the 2012 Junior World Championship. He has previously starred for the Southland Stags in the ITM Cup, being born and bred in Invercargill and is the cousin of Maori All Black Robbie Robinson.
