James Lowe belongs to both Ngapuhi and Ngai Te Rangi iwi and his great form for ITM Cup Championship-winning Tasman in 2013 saw him attract interest from a number of Investec Super Rugby teams as well as the Maori All Blacks selectors. Although he didn’t make the final squad for the North American Tour, his consistency and quality performances in the time since saw him earn selection in 2014.
In 2014 Lowe made his Investec Super Rugby debut with the Chiefs, where the versatile player (Lowe can cover wing and fullback) made a real impact. He has again been a key part of Tasman’s success in the 2014 ITM Cup Premiership, scoring seven tries in the regular season.
Known for his tremendous pace and ability to create scoring opportunities from nothing, Lowe has played for the Tasman Makos since 2012, making his debut just a few weeks after his 20th birthday. He was also part of the successful New Zealand Schools team that beat Australia in 2010.
