It has been a big few weeks for Marcel Renata, who was part of the Provincial Barbarians side that tested the Lions in Whangarei. The Auckland prop – who represented the Blues at the Brisbane 10s this year – is part of the Ngati Whanaunga and Te Aupouri iwi.
Renata was a late addition to the Maori All Blacks squad in 2015, called up to face the New Zealand Barbarians at Eden Park and the Ngati Whanaunga / Te Aupouri prop joined the fray from the bench. He was then selected by Head Coach Colin Cooper for the 2016 Northern Tour, on which he played in all three matches.
The young, gifted prop made his provincial rugby debut shortly after for Auckland and was in the thick of things during the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup. Renata has also been involved with coaching the game for the University club, where he has been a player since 2012.
