Owen Franks

Owen Franks loves the physicality of rugby, which makes him a formidable opponent and has earned him a place as one of the best tighthead props in the modern era.

His impressive strength and scrummaging technique reflects the tremendous effort he puts in at training, not only on the paddock but also in the gym.

Franks made his Test debut in 2009 at the age of 21 years and 186 days, the third-youngest prop to be selected for the All Blacks. He has started 93 of his 103 Tests to date, the second-highest number of starts by an All Blacks prop, behind former teammate Tony Woodcock.

Franks rarely missed a Test up until 2017, testament to his consistency and reliability, but in September 2017 he had to undergo surgery on his Achilles tendon which kept him sidelined for eight months.

Franks became the ninth All Black to reach 100 Tests when he played against Australia in Auckland during the Investec Rugby Championship in 2018.

He played in all seven All Blacks matches at the 2011 Rugby World Cup and six at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
