Ngati Toa-affiliated Luke Katene is originally from the Bay of Plenty in the central North Island of New Zealand but has had an impressive 2013 ITM Cup season with Canterbury after being part of two ITM Cup-winning red-and-black sides in 2011 and 2012. That impressive form saw him earn selection to the Maori All Blacks for the first time.
He is a mobile and agile lock with impressive acceleration around the paddock, is a solid lineout technician and has an impressive tackle count.
Outside of rugby, Katene is studying towards an accounting degree at the University of Canterbury, and has served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
