Kristina Sue

Kristina Sue’s selection in her first Black Ferns squad caps a remarkable rise in the fifteens game after she had previously focused on playing touch, sevens and rugby league.

Sue missed the 2015 season with the Cyclones after choosing to focus on league and injury limited her involvement with sevens but she returned to the green and whites for the 2016 Farah Palmer Cup. Currently Head of the Physical Education Department at Wanganui Girls College, Sue is actively involved in developing the next generation of rugby players.

Career Comments

  • Favourite rugby ground Cheltenham - FOBOs home ground baby!

Favourite rugby player and why... Ben Smith - because he is consistent, skillful, clever decision maker, reliable and love how he made the ABs at a later age and now carving! Sarah Goss - I've seen her grow as a person and as an amazing player and leader. Her work ethic is admirable, she is mentally tough and a good friend. Portia Woodman is just something else as well - ultimate athlete!

Earliest or best rugby memory... Best rugby memories have been the ones I've made with my club team FOBOs and close second will be the journey with Manawatu Womens 7s (3 national titles and 1 silver)

Biggest influence on your rugby and why... Rebecca Mahoney nee Hull - because she was the one who introduced me to rugby after playing touch at Palmy Girls. She had a constant belief in me throughout my sporting career and was a huge support person when I was younger.

Last song you had on repeat... Where You At - Allen Stone and tracks from Sons of Zion - Life & Universal Love.

    Favourite non-rugby sports team...

Sporting hero... Hands down - Lydia Ko! She is phenomenal! Lisa Carrington is a close second.

If you could meet one person, who would it be and why... If they were still alive - Kate Sheppard and Nancy Wake! But I would love to meet Oprah and both Queen B's (Beyonce and Bea from Wentworth ha) reason why - because they either have or continue to inspire and empower women. Proud feminist I am.

I hate it when... Pet hates - leaving the bathmat down, wearing shoes without socks and people who chew really loudly.

If I wasn't a rugby player, I would be... Still fulfilling my role as an educator!
