Tim Bateman

Tim Bateman is a very experienced rugby player - he made his Super Rugby debut with the Crusaders at 19 years old. He is now one of the Hurricanes’ and Wellington’s senior players and has been frequently called upon to lead his teams’ backlines.

The 2013 Maori All Blacks North American Tour is Bateman’s third with the team, and his first as Captain. He made his Maori All Blacks debut in 2008 – a year after he appeared for New Zealand Under 21 -, but missed the team’s Centenary Series in 2010, before rejoining the side in 2012 for the European Tour. He was part of all three matches on that Tour, including the win over Canada.

The athletic midfield back’s attacking vision is complemented by robust defensive abilities. He has also completed a law degree. Tim hails from Ngai Tahu iwi.
