With his selection to the 2006 All Blacks squad, David Hill completes a remarkable return to the international stage. Hill earned his first black jersey back in 2001, when he was selected to go on the All Blacks’ end-of-year tour to Ireland, Scotland and Argentina. He made two mid-week appearances for the All Blacks, against Ireland A and Scotland A, alongside the likes of Jerry Collins and Marty Holah. While those appearances came in the No 10 jersey, the versatile Hill has played at both first and second five-eighths for Waikato, the Chiefs and the Junior All Blacks. On the back of another strong season with the Chiefs, Hill has played more than 50 games for the franchise. At 104kg Hill is a big No 10 and has carved a reputation as a line-breaker with the vision to set up his outside backline. In his final year at Marlborough Boys' College he soon made the Marlborough Air New Zealand NPC team, playing in the winning third division final in 1997. He moved to Italy for two seasons but returned in 2000, turning out for Southland before moving to Waikato.
