YOUNG WING Monica Tagoai first took the rugby field in year 13 at Saint Mary’s College. In 2016 she was selected for the Wellington Pride development squad, where she made her debut off the bench against Waikato.
2017 was a breakout year for Tagoai. She starred at the National Tertiary Women’s Sevens tournament for Victoria University, getting over the tryline eight times in four matches, including scoring a hattrick in their opening game.
She was also selected as part of the Black Ferns Sevens Development Squad, where she travelled to Japan to take part in a four-team mini tournament.
That same year, in her second season with the Wellington Pride, she started in the number 13 jersey for ?ve out of seven games, collecting her first Farah Palmer Cup try.
While at Saint Mary’s College, Tagoai also captained the 2016 Volleyball Senior A team to fifth place at nationals in Palmerston North.
