Grace Brooker’s skills and versatility landed her a professional women’s contract in her first year out of school in 2018.
Originally from Oxford in North Canterbury, Brooker played for five years in a strong and successful Christchurch Girls’ High School First XV side.
While she often played at openside flanker for her school, she has predominantly played at fullback for her High School Old Boys Rugby Club, where she proved dominant and a prolific try scorer.
After a stint with the Canterbury women’s sevens team, Brooker enjoyed a busy 2017, playing for the New Zealand Under 18 Sevens team and making her Farah Palmer Cup debut for Canterbury.
In her inaugural season, Brooker played mainly at fullback or on the wing and proved a standout, scoring five tries en route to the championship title, including doubles against Manawatu and Waikato in the semi-final.
Strong form in 2017 rewarded Brooker with a Black Ferns professional contract in 2018.
Brooker produced more consistent form in the 2018 Farah Palmer Cup season and found herself predominantly playing in the midfield. Brooker again finished the season with five tries and was an integral part of a Canterbury side which secured back to back titles, defeating Counties Manukau 52-29 in the final.
In 2019 Brooker was again contracted to the national side where she will be looking to make her much anticipated debut.
