Aroha Savage

Aroha Savage is the incumbent Black Ferns No 8 and a two-time Women’s Rugby World Cup winner.

She first cracked first-class rugby in 2007 with Auckland at the tender age of 17. At just 20, Savage was called up by the Black Ferns, debuting off the bench in the 2010 WRWC against the Wallaroos, though she had to bide her time behind the likes of Casey Robertson and Linda Itunu. Since then, she has appeared for the team in every year barring 2015.

Her hard-nosed play off the back of the scrum, and incredible pace, was on show again in 2017, where she started five of six games for the Black Ferns at No 8, including the WRWC final against England.

After a clutch of national provincial titles with the Storm, Savage, who plays out of the Manurewa club, switched to the Counties Manukau Heat and, in 2016, won a Farah Palmer Cup crown with her home union.

Savage is a double international, having also represented the Kiwi Ferns in rugby league.
