Asafo Aumua

THE SENSATIONAL Asafo Aumua has already compiled a swag of YouTube highlights in his young career. The 21-year-old flanker turned hooker is blessed with the grunt of a front row forward and sensational speed and sidestep of a winger and plays with pace and power that belies his 108kg frame.

Born and raised in Lower Hutt, Aumua debuted for the Wellington Lions in 2016 in his first year out of school aged just 19 and was the Lions' leading tryscorer dotting down six times in his 10 games, including a hat-trick against Northland. In 2017 he had a massive impact at the World Under 20 Championship, scoring another hat-trick in New Zealand's 64-17 win over England in the final. His stunning form continued into the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup season with his 60-metre try against Canterbury one of the best of the year.

Aumua was later recognised as the Wellington Rugby Supporter’s Club Player of the Year.  After suffering a wrist injury that required surgery earlier this year, Aumua was sidelined for three months. He has since returned for Wellington and continued to add to his try-scoring tally.
