"Alex underwent an arthroscopy on Thursday which revealed a fracture to the talar dome in his left ankle," Waratahs chief medical officer Sharron Flahive said.
"At this point we're looking at him being able to run by the end of September, with a return to the field possible four weeks after that."
Kanaar is expected to be fully fit in time for the Wallabies' tour of Europe.
