First Class and International Status Policy for Referees

1) All approved First Class Fixtures relating to both Men’s and Women’s rugby shall automatically be a First Class appointment (and recorded accordingly as Men’s or Women’s matches for that referee).

2) All appointments to Full International fixtures (eg Test matches) shall automatically be a ‘Test cap – Men’s’ or a ‘Test cap – Women’s’ (and recorded accordingly as Men’s or Women’s Test caps for that referee).

3) Such other matches as the New Zealand Rugby Board may from time to time determine (e.g matches offshore of a similar standing to New Zealand first class matches such as the domestic competitions of other National Unions).

4) Sevens Rugby

A referee will be credited with one appointment for officiating in any approved Sevens tournament, whether he/she controls only one game, or more, during the event.

The following tournaments set out below shall automatically be accorded First Class appointment status.

(a) Rugby World Cup Sevens and any qualifying tournament.
(b) World Rugby’s World Sevens Series.
(c) Olympic Games.
(d) Commonwealth Games.
(e) New Zealand Rugby National Sevens tournament.
(f) Such other tournaments as the New Zealand Rugby Board may from time to time determine.
