The gameshow pitted stars from various codes against each other in a number of tests of skill, strength and stamina before the last two competitors were left to square off in the ‘Power Wall’.
After seeing off USA Olympic sprinter Justin Gatlin, Russian gymnast Denis Ablyazin, Brazilian-American UFC fighter Wanderlei Silva and many other top Japanese stars, Laulala met the only other New Zealand contestant in the final – Olympic shot-putter Tom Walsh.
Before the final, Walsh spoke of his admiration for the All Blacks and Laulala.
“Every boy in New Zealand wants to play for the All Blacks growing up, I did myself as well. He's going to be tough to beat but I think I can take it out," Walsh said.
The final Power Wall event was perfectly suited to Laulala’s powerful scrummaging ability as he gained the advantage early on and never let the pressure off.
Laulala has played 13 Tests for the All Blacks since debuting in 2015 but it remains to be seen whether he will return to Japan to defend his title next year.
