By virtue of their bonus points, Counties Manukau, the defending champions, are still two points clear of Canterbury.

It was an incredible turnaround from Canterbury who lost 52-15 to Counties Manukau when they last met in 2015. Canterbury's victory was built on a relentless attacking game plan which reaped six tries to Counties Manukau's five tries.

Auckland were pushed all the way by Wellington at Porirua Park before ending with a 31-30 victory.

In the Championship, front runner Bay of Plenty scored a four-try bonus point 38-15 win over Tasman on Sunday. In other action North Harbour achieved their first win when beating Hawke's Bay 20-0 at QBE Stadium in Albany.
