New Zealand Sevens star Portia Woodman made her mark by scoring four of the 10 tries Counties Manukau scored while Sharnita Woodman scored two.

It was a record score in games between the two sides but notably for Counties Manukau whose best previously in their two wins over Wellington was 37-23.

Auckland assured themselves of the chance to defend their title when beating Canterbury 33-3 at Colin Maiden Park in Auckland.

It was always going to be a tough task for Canterbury who, in 19 previous matches between the two, had only ever beaten Auckland once.

Auckland 33 (F Faamausili, Kiritapu Demant, Tyla Nathan-Wong 2 tries; Emma Jensen 2 con, 3 pen) Canterbury 3 (Kendra Cocksedge pen). HT: 10-3
