Chiefs Assistant Coach Tom Coventry has been impressed by the form and work rate of the new recruits in their respective ITM Cup campaigns
“The appealing aspect of both of these players is that they are highly ambitious and keen to grow their games in the Chiefs culture which is exciting for all parties involved,” said Coventry.
“Matt has taken the opportunity to secure a starting position in ITM Cup and in doing so has been a stand out player for us.”
Twenty-four year old Symons has been a strong performer for Canterbury this season having made the move from England, where he played for Esher and was a former British rower. At two metres tall and 117kg, Symons has proven to be highly mobile with strong aerial ability.
At 112kg and 196cm tall Liam Squire’s athletic style has caught the eye of several Super Rugby franchises but Squire selected the Chiefs.
“Liam works hard around the field and also offers us another line-out option,” said Coventry.
Both players will move to Hamilton late November.
