Parra, who was arguably France's most important player during their 2010 Six Nations Grand Slam romp, continues the new(ish) tradition of French number nines controlling play, in contrast to the New Zealand tradition of a first five leading the bulk of tacticial direction.

Parra has been replaced in the touring squad for the three-Test Steinlager Series by Toulouse number nine Jean-Marc Doussain.

Parra, already with a slight injury, left the field during Castres shock 25-9 win over favourites Clermont with a thigh complaint.

French Rugby released the following report.

"That is stopping him being at 100 percent, notably in his place kicking, following consultation with the Clermont medical staff and those of the French team, he must pull out of June's tournament in New Zealand."

The Toulon and Castres contingent of the French squad (the Top 14 finalists) will join up with the core of the touring group on June 2.
