Cane's two-try haul was richly deserved, though hearts were beating as to whether the young flanker would have the composure to finish his second after he juggled it metres before the line.

His ensuing dive showcased the enjoyment he had felt in the match, and he later revealed he relishes any opportunity to shine on the big stages.

"You've just got to go out there and give it your best shot. We're always trying to put a good performance on - I love those big occasions and times when you have to step up.

"I guess I'm trying to embrace it and not let it burden me as such."

The breakdown domination certainly paved the way for the hosts, and Cane said the ability to increase their line speed, being efficient at the contact area and putting in more dominant tackles ensured the Irish forwards were shut out.

"When we're getting go-forward like we were right from the set piece - that allows people like Sonny [Bill Williams] to get over the gain line."

As one of three Chiefs players to dot down for the All Blacks - Williams and Liam Messam also got their names in the tryscorers column - Cane said it was great to see players who had put the hard work in get the resulting rewards.

It's also great news for the franchise as they prepare to travel to Dunedin for their Super Rugby battle against the Highlanders on Friday.
