What is NZR+?

NZR+ is a FREE digital streaming service giving fans access to rugby content via a free New Zealand Rugby Fan Profile. NZR+ is available 24/7, 365-days a year and features behind the scenes, exclusive, and original content that can’t be found anywhere else.

What countries is NZR+ available?

NZR+ is a worldwide service.

Why create NZR+?

We know there are tens of millions of All Blacks, Black Ferns and wider New Zealand rugby fans across the world. We have a huge opportunity with the creation of NZR+ to inspire and engage directly with fans in a deeper way through content– enabling them to connect with our game, our players and the amazing stories attached to them.

Is NZR+ the same as other streaming platforms? And if not, how is it different?
  • Yes and no, the platform when it launches on August 17 will look similar to a streaming platform with the All Blacks and Black Ferns documentaries available to watch.
  • NZR+ will also host a multitude of other content such as the All Blacks Podcast, NZR Podcast, Small Blacks TV and content series on key moments in the history of our Teams In Black.
  • It is important to note, NZR+ will evolve as fans engage with it, the platform and its content will be adapted as we learn more about what works and what doesn’t.  In time, it could also evolve into a hub for all things NZ Rugby – tickets, merchandise etc.
What will fans see on NZR+?
  • All Blacks through the eyes of the players, coaches and management in 2022. Fans will have access to a four-episode series on one of the most challenging All Blacks seasons in history.
  • Black Ferns Road to Redemption documentary will be available to watch on launch of NZR+ This three-episode doco follows the team to their historic, sold out Rugby World Cup win at Eden Park last year.
  • Teams in Black (All Blacks, Black Ferns, All Blacks Sevens, Black Ferns Sevens)
  • NZR+ will also host a multitude of other content such as the All Blacks Podcast, NZR Podcast, Small Blacks TV and content series’ on key moments in the history of our Teams In Black.
  • Some specialist content through RWC
  • A series on Rugby in France with Taika Waititi
What live games can I watch on NZR+?

No live games are streamed on NZR+.

Is there a content schedule for NZR+? What can we expect to see over the next 6 -12 months?

Schedule will be announced in due course

Will new content be coming out on the All Blacks during RWC?

Schedule will be announced in due course

Why is there no content or series for the other Teams in Black (Sevens teams, Māori All Blacks, Under 20s, ABXV)? And when will we see expect to see these teams feature on NZR+?
  • All Teams in Black will feature on NZR+, it’s about identifying the best moment to do this.
  • NZR+ aims to connect with fans internationally and to ensure we’re achieving this we needed to launch with the two teams who have recently played in, or are preparing for a Rugby World Cup.
  • That’s not to say we’re only covering teams in World Cup years, but they are important and engage a large international audience.
  • The stories behind the All Blacks and Black Ferns journey last year and this year as you will see, are really engaging and inspiring.
  • The All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens qualified for the Olympics last year, we will be following them on their road to the Olympics.
Why do you think fans will engage with NZR+?
  • We’ve seen globally the transformation of sport to become not just about the product on the field but also what happens beyond the field. Fans are wanting to understand more about their favourite teams and players.
  • We will be taking a test and learn approach to trial what content works and what doesn’t, however we know fans of the Teams in Black globally have limited chances to engage with our brand, and so we are hopeful that providing more access than ever provided before will encourage further fan engagement.
Will there be commercial partnership opportunities with NZR+ (i.e. sponsored content, sponsored shows)?

Right now, our focus is to ensure the platform is optimised to provide fans with the best digital experience while also building scale. There is potential to look into sponsorship opportunities next year.

Is the plan to move live games to NZR+ and how does that impact on your approach to broadcasting, and the Sky relationship in particular?

For the time being, broadcasting live content or matches on NZR+ is not on our radar. We are focused on delivering a great fan engagement platform.

How can we as media use and repurpose the content?

There are some content rights sensitivities we need to consider. This aside, NZR+ would be able to share series trailers for syndication. There may be instances where we can make a series episode available on a case by case basis and will work through this as we start to understand appetite
